Promises of Restoration and a Joyful Jerusalem

Chapter 8
1 The word of the LORD of Hosts came, saying. 2 This is what the LORD of cosmic hosts says: I have been zealous for Zion with great zeal and great wrath; I have been zealous for her. 3 This is what the LORD says: I have returned to Zion and I have dwelt in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem will be called City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD of Hosts the mountain of holiness. 4 This is what the LORD of hosts says: Old men and old women will sit in the squares of Jerusalem, each with a staff in hand because of their great age. 5 And the broad places of the city will fill with boys and girls playing in its broad places. 6 This is what the LORD of hosts says: If it is a wonder in my eyes—the remnant of this people in those days—even in my eyes it will be a wonder, says the LORD of hosts. 7 This is what the LORD of Hosts says: I am saving my people from a land in the east and from a land where the sun rises. 8 And I will bring them, and we will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and they will be my people, and I will be their God in truth and in righteousness. 9 This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Let your hands be strengthened, you who are hearing in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who, in the day the House of the LORD of Hosts—the Temple—was founded to be built. 10 For before those days there was no reward for humanity, and there was no reward for the beast/livestock, and there was no shalom for the one going out or the one coming in because of the adversary, and I set every man of humanity against his companion. 11 And now, not like the former days am I to the remnant of this people, says the LORD of hosts. 12 for seed of peace, the vine will give its fruit, and the land will give its yield, and the heavens will give their dew, and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things. 13 And it will be just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you and you will be a blessing. Do not fear; let your hands be strong. 14 For this is what the LORD of hosts says: "As I planned to do evil to you when your fathers provoked me to anger," says the LORD of hosts, "but I did not relent." 15 So I have returned and planned in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah—do not fear. 16 These are the things you shall do: speak truth, each man to his companion; truth and justice of peace; judge in your gates. 17 And do not devise the evil of your neighbor in your hearts, and do not love an oath of falsehood, for all these which I have hated, declares the LORD. 18 The word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying: 19 Thus says the LORD of hosts: The fast of the fourth, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Judah for joy and for gladness and for good appointed times, and for loving truth and peace. 20 This is what the LORD of hosts says: Peoples will come, and inhabitants of many cities. 21 The inhabitants of one city will go to those of another, saying, "Let us go and seek the face of the LORD and seek the LORD of hosts—I will go also." 22 And many peoples and mighty nations will come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the face of the LORD. 23 This is what the LORD of hosts says: In those days, ten men from all the languages of the nations will grasp—and grasp the wing of a Judahite man—saying, “We will go with you, for we have heard God is with you.”
